9/18 ML Gameday Thread: Greenville looks to tie series, force decisive 5th game

A - Greenville (Fabian Williamson) vs. Lakewood [PHI] (Korey Noles) 7:05 pm Game 4

AAA- Pawtucket - Season completed on 9/7. The team finished with a 61-82 record, good for fourth place in the International League North Division, missing the playoffs by 19.5 games.
AA- Portland - Season completed on 9/7. The team finished with a 67-74 record, good for fourth place in the Eastern League Northern Division, missing the playoffs by 5 games.
A+ - Salem - Season completed on 9/17. The team finished 67-72, winning the second half southern division title. Salem swept Winston-Salem in 3 straight in the semifinals before being swept themselves in 3 games by Lynchburg.
SS - Lowell - Season completed on 9/12. The team finished with a 45-30 record to win their 2nd consecutive Stedler Division Title. Lowell was defeated in the first round of the playoffs by Staten Island 2 games to 1.
R - GCL Red Sox - Season completed on 8/31. The team finished with a 26-27 record, good for fourth place in the GCL South Division, missing the playoffs by 7 games for the division.
DSL - DSL Red Sox - Season completed on 8/21. The team finished with a 44-25 record, good for third place in the Boca Chica North Division, missing the playoffs by 2.5 games for the wildcard.

Their starter is 24 years old; ours is 20 years old. Just sayin'.

And the season comes to an end with a 5-1 loss. I just want to thank everyone for a great season of minor league baseball. The insight and analysis from everyone that went to games, followed online, etc. was awesome. I look forward to opening day 2010 when the first ML gameday thread kicks off another season. Have a great fall and winter and we hope people still will follow the site in the offseason because Red Sox baseball is never ending.

jsinger and jonasi (and others) - this is one of my favorite parts of this website. The ease by which you both make it to follow all of the minor league teams is greatly appreciated!

Sad to see the season end so unceremoniously. On the other hand, it's nice to see the season extend until September 19th. It seems like a long time ago we recorded the pre-season podcast. Great job by everyone on the site, especially Singer and Soxfn for their work in these threads.

Not so sad here, I'm happy for what I consider to be a very successful season for the Red Sox. Sure there were some disappointments but all in all, there's a lot stuck to the wall. In 2010, I'm looking forward to a continuation of the success of best player development machine in baseball.

Bring on fall/winter ball, something you don't get with the major leagues.

Florida Winter Baseball League
I was listening the other day to mlb stream on XM and heard an interview with Ken Griffey Sr who is the commissioner of the new Florida Winter Baseball League. This league will have four teams this first year and operate like a Indy ball league without any direct association from MLB, although Griffey Sr said they were working on it for the future. The league apparently is targeted at the same level guys that were playing in Hawaii....mostly A and A+ level players who are looking to get some more playing time. They will play a 60 game season starting on Oct 30th with the end of season sometime around mid Jan. Should be interesting to see what kind of rosters the league puts together, but it sounds like a great idea.

getapitch, if they're unaffiliated, I doubt they're gonna get anywhere. MLB is making a league to fill the HWB void that will play in Arizona next year, sort of like a parallel league that we see during the DSL and VWL seasons. The fact that their "historic first signing", per the league's website, was a 23-year-old who was terrible in A-ball this year doesn't necessarily bode well for the level of competition. Still, it definitely merits some watching.
