Let's hope that the RS continue to support Smoltz by scoring more runs (4-0 in 2nd inning) so that he'll be more confident than what he did in DC.

On the other hand if your tools suck and your skills are excellent you're either not highly regarded or you're Pedroia.

Rich Hill is terrible, but a nice job by Ortiz to go the opposite way in his last couple ABs none the less.

Rich Hill has to be terrible to give up 9 runs in 4 innings to THIS Sox lineup.

Rich Hill tonight was basically Abe Alvarez without fastball command.
Now of course the problem is the rain. I can tell you it was pouring, and still is, here north of DC. I was hoping the Sox could get through the 5th, but no such luck. This appears to be a kind of pop-up storm, and those can sometimes fade away the same way they came -- or they can just hang on and dump in one spot.

Yeah, Hill never looked at Pedroia after his double, and he simply took off and waltzed into 3rd.
Hill basically became unglued. The game sped up on him and he simply let events carry him away. Dammit -- from what I can see of the metro weather radar, half an hour ago a blob was over South Baltimore, with the red (heaviest rain) core right over Camden Yards. This could be a mess. Hopefully this will fade away and the ground crew can do its job. But even if so, I presume that Smoltz will not return, is cheated out of a win, and the rest of the game is up to the pen.

Masterson's pitching in the 7th lets the Orioles cut the lead to 10-5.

Started hanging pitches and throwing everything in the middle of the plate. Of course, he pitched a couple of days ago, so I guess maybe he just ran out of
oomph this inning. Looked good the first two.

Someone forgot to tell the Sox that they were going to have to finish the game. What an absolutely pathetic throw by Ellsbury.

On the Kottaras play, the runner was actually running on the IF grass, so Kottaras had no way to get the ball to 1B and held on to the ball. What he should
have done was drilled the runner in the back and he would have been out.
Well, Francona may have mismanaged, but now we may be feeling some effects of back to back games by our 4-guys-to-pitch-2-innings scenario yesterday. Plus, it so happens that everything the O's hit is finding a hole right now. There have been a few hard hit balls, but some have been poked here and there. |

We haven't had too many of these feel sick to my stomach games since Gagne left. Tonight feels like one of them. |
