Sad note, I read a post at another site that Coco is done for the year, torn labrum.

gNats Dibble: "Varitek has thrown out 11 of 54 runners. That's 11% but, it's not his fault."
I was unaware that his math skills equaled his catcher evaluation acumen.

It's not the correct number either, he's actually 6 for 54 which is 11%

Ortiz has been staying closed on outside pitches . The first time I saw that was the night he hit the HR to left last week. Pitchers have been throwing outside
to him for about 2 months now because he was always opening up. Big change. Onthe other hand, it was a high changeup after being way late on a bunch of
fastballs.

We have the privilege of picking our poison, good mechanics and poor arm or poor mechanics and good arm. Check out the Marlins sometimes, were relatively
blessed.

Our catchers suck on baserunners but the Marlins are worse.
We need to worry, Tyler Clippard is warming. If I remember correctly, he's a huber prospect... |

Even Dibble can find a nut.
That's my opinion though, I know there's lotsa people that think he's back. Optimism's a good thing. Edit: HR was off a changeup. Make mine changeup bat speed.

OK, my work on the clinching calculation.
Through last night 70 games, 92 left, 5 game lead. If the Sox, Yankees and Nats played as they have so far, alternating series, and played an even number of games against each other, after 48 games for all 3 teams, the Sox would have gained 24 more games on the Yankees head to head and 16 more in games versus the Nats (the Yankees won one of their 3 against the Nats, remember). That would be a pickup of 40 games, or a lead of 45 games with 162 - 70 - 48 = 44 games left. That is, the Sox would have clinched on the 48th game. But when the Sox are playing the Nats the Yankees have to be off, and vice versa, because the assumption was that they would play only each other, so that adds 24 days to the schedule, so that makes 72 calendar days until clinching. Add in the 4 day AS break which I assume stays as is, and the Sox need 76 calendar days to clinch. 7 in June, 31 in July, 31 in August makes 69, so you need 7 days in September. QED. |

Nick Johnson right now kind of looks like a much younger, less fat version of Ron Jeremy.

I wonder how far the likeness extends -- to coin a phrase. But enough foolishness. This game is not over yet.
