Now it's Pedroia who's cooled off -- maybe we need to figure out a way to get him back in the 2 hole. Who pitches the 8th and 9th? Might we see Bard have a chance for a save? Or maybe Masterson to pitch 2 innings?

Let's face it -- this is an ENTIRELY different-looking team when Lester and Beckett act like true top-of-the-rotation pitchers and Papi starts cranking the
ball.

Did Masterson get abducted by aliens or something when I wasn't looking? With Paps having pitched the last two nights, wouldn't it make sense to pitch
Masterson in the 8th and Oka in the 9th, or something?

Terrible pitch. You can get that much of the plate to Ryan Howard.

Francona clearly should have used Okajima for the 9th.

Please don't throw any offspeed pitches to Matt Stairs.
Edit: Tek just couldn't stay away from the change up could he, thankfully Stairs didn't get all of it. "Being Scandinavian myself, I can tell you that Lars is the name of the mythological Norse God of Batting." Drew (Pacific Prospect Report) |

Now I very rarely knock Francona, but if Paps wasn't available tonight, then the situation begged to have a RHP pitch the 8th - pick among
Ramirez/Masterson/Bard and Oka to be in to face Utley/Howard/Stairs. This just didn't make any sense. I ask again - has Masterson been taken to the Planet
Zebulon? Where the heck IS this guy? Injury we don't know about, maybe?

No, they've just been fooled by Ramirez's ERA/HR rate which were both bound to regress.

Masterson looked just ok in that inning. But Bay made that play look so smooth and effortless. lets put a run across the board in the 11th.

Hold crap. Masterson got very lucky that the foul ball wasn't hit for a HR. Off to the 12th we go.

Wow, so we've seen the good Bard and the bad Bard in the same inning here... which one is real?!
Edit: I'm not sure what the answer to my question is, but that strikeout of Victorino was hilarious... even Wakefield doesn't get swings like that.

What a pitch to end it. Bard had Victorino completely baffled.
