Josh Beckett's .403 career OPS would beg to differ! He and Penny both have 2 career HRs.

They have the arm and know the scouting reports. You could carry another pitcher, as well as another DH, and... umm... we could call the Pitcher-Catchers Patchers.

I am speechless. Even in a game thread, this site is not intended to be a place where you post every ridiculous and half-formed thought that comes into your head. Just the suggestion that all there is to catching is arm strength and game calling is beyond absurd. You should post less.

Why do you even need a catcher when there is no one on base? Just take Varitek and put him in the infield.

Envision the infield to look like this: (third base bag)-Mike Lowell-Kevin Youkilis-Julio Lugo-(second base bag)-Dustin Pedroia-Jason Varitek-(first base bag).

Or run with an extra outfielder ala softball.
