Outstide of the Nationals, would you swap drafts with any other team right now?
I love the Cardinals, Rays, and A's drafts.

Gut feelings, knee jerk reactions, mindless blatherings. What is your initial reaction of the Sox '09 draft?

I havent really looked into the other teams too much, but I'm happy for my friend Nick Greenwood that got drafted 414th overall to the Padres. I like the
Renfroe pick, and Volz pick, sounds like the kid has legit stuff. Miles Head looks like he could provide some pop. Got a lot of young arms and some very high
upside athletes. Can't really complain. I don't know much about the guys we drafted so ive been reading alot of what others have posted.

I really liked the Rays draft and of course; the Angels with all those picks really racked up.

Not a big fan of the National's Drew Storen pick. But they probably wanted to have more money to give Strasburg. I think the Diamondbacks had an incredible
draft, grabbing two of the best HS position players in Matt Davidson and Bobby Borchering in addition to an outstanding college CF AJ Pollock. St. Louis also
had a great draft I think. Getting an arm like they got in the first round where they picked was a great grab. Ryan Jackson who they also got probably has the
best glove of any college player in the draft and they got Scott Bittle far down cause of an injury.

I really like the top-end of the Royals' and Rockies' drafts.
I am excited by our draft (didn't see that coming), and only wish we had another pick or two near the top per usual. Absolutely love the Renfroe pick. The signability question marks will also be interesting to follow and it's good to know that we could have some big power (potential) guys playing in our system very soon. |

Im satisfied with the draft. The sox didn't exactly have much to work with in terms of picks but i think they did fine with what they had. I wish they had
taken Stassi, even if they had to overpay him.

I saw a top 100 HS player ranking in the country that included Madison Younginger and Reed Gragnani. So with those selections combined with some of the earlier
selections I am very satisfied with this draft. Just putting this idea out there about of why they passed on Stassi so many times. You can call it dumb but the
thought just crossed my mind, what if the didnt want to draft him after seeing how Kyle Skipworth has mightily struggled this year after being picked so high
last year. I think it may be a combination of that and the money. They both seem like similar players, Skipworth is slightly bigger. Its probably the money

The best pick of the draft will be Jeremy Hazelbaker.

templeUsox wrote: I'm curious as to why you think this. He looks like a great looking athlete. Good left handed bat, but really seemed to struggled until putting up great numbers this year. He's got a good looking swing but doesnt really have that great of a track record during his college years. Number one what made him go so high? and two why is Jeremy Hazelbaker the best draft pick. I like Volz, Renfroe, Younginer and Kline just to name a few. |

The guy put up ridiculous numbers but didnt really play against elite competition and this was his only good year in his three year career at Ball State.
Against Mizzou he went 7 for 18 including a 1 for 4 performance against first round pick Kyle Gibson. Mizzou's the only really good team they played all
year

Just a thought, but I don't think McLeod & Co. put a ton of stock into his Ball State numbers. Maybe that's just me.

I think his numbers and performance at Ball St. played a role in him being drafted where he was drafted.

I disagree. Scouts never scout performance, they scout tools.

I dont think if he were to bat 250 steal less bases than he did and not hit like he did that he wouldve been drafted where was drafted. All i was saying is
that is part of the reason to like him, his performance at Ball State this past year was a good one.

The Sox are known to target guys with performance spikes in their Jr. year.
