Lars Anderson & Argenis Diaz Promoted to Portland |
Lead | ||
|
Portland bound. Lars Anderson and Argenis Diaz to Portland. A little hard to say goodbye to Argenis, both true professionals at such a young age.
Enjoy everyone, such a joy to watch over here.

Congrats to the both. Likely means Iggy Suarez could get released. I didn't think I would see Diaz get promoted at this point in the season though.

I have to admit I'm a little schoked, but happy for both guys. Good job rjortiz.

If Suarez is not released then he could be promoted and Gil Velazquez could be released from Pawtucket.

Very impressive that Anderson has already reached AA in just his 2nd professional season.

Somewhere Josh Reddick weeps a little.
So I would agree that Iggy could possibly be headed to AAA but the other part is Bates moves to a DH role and someone else goes or ? |

Yes, and I guess the Sox decided that the Lars Freight Train had gathered enough momentum that it was time. But Diaz being promoted shocks me. I mean, the guy
still has a sub .700 OPS at Lancaster, fer goodness sakes. He's liable to get eaten up offensively at Portland. Maybe the big question is, what happens to
Bates?

I would say Bates is a little more mature however, don't discount Lars and how fast he may mature. Good luck to both of them. It was very hard to see Argenis go. He stayed with me for several months. Just a joy and very shy. Both are true professionals.

Why are you shocked? People on this site keep forgetting that Lars is an elite prospect. On the Lars thread, I had multiple people attempt to convince me that
Lars would be promoted in mid-August and I told them that there is nothing left for Lars to prove in high-A ball.

Fcastig- Can you refrain from putting other players down when you make a point on a prospect? This isn't the first time you've done it as in that same
Lars' thread you used the term "scrub" in regards to another player when going on about Lars needing to be promoted. I don't think it
bolsters your point nor adds anything to the discussion. In fact, it detracts from your posts and lacks tact.
I apologize to all the other posters for making that point in public, but it has been a reoccurring theme and has no place in our threads, in my opinion. Congrats to Lars and Diaz on the promotions. I am excited and interested to see what impacts each can make at AA with their various skill sets. Thanks to the Lancaster crew for all of their 1st hands on these guys and looking forward to Haddock Field adding to our already excellent info source. |

It's only necessary to reveal the true value of a Mike Jones and/or Aaron Bates type player when half of the posters on this website attempt to justify Lars not being promoted until mid-August, because Mike Jones wasn't promoted in April. If posters are able to skew the value of Mike Jones in a positive, unrealistic light, then it's only fair that I skew Mike Jones in an objective, fair light. Nice try, though. |

Easy gentlemen, this is not about us. This is about the players who deal with so much to achieve what they do. This isn't like some sports where you get
out of high school or college, you sign and are playing the big dance. Here in baseball, we earn our way up. I don't care who you are as a professional
baseball player. It is no fluke, lots of long bus rides, living conditions and other conditions frankly some of us would not travel down that road.
As for these two and all who played and play at all levels, heres to you and the love we all enjoy "BASEBALL"

You can make a good case for Lars to be promoted before Reddick, but I don't see how anyone can convince me that Diaz is more deserving. I uderstand he had a HORRIBLE april which bring down his season stats significantly but he's got the same, if not worse, k-zone issues that apparently are preventing Reddick from being promoted. Maybe this is good news for Reddick, we'll see. "Being Scandinavian myself, I can tell you that Lars is the name of the mythological Norse God of Batting." Drew (Pacific Prospect Report) |

really dont deserve to themselves read a post here or have a friend read a post hear that is referring to them as inadaquate. Maybe some people blow people up
and make them something they are not, but for a young kid that's not hurtful - it might even be inspiring. I hate even ripping major league ball players
even though they make a ton of money, but putting a kid down is tactless. All that's trying to be said is you can refer to Mike Jones or Aaron Bates in
the way you feel about them without being rude. "scrub" speaks for itself and doesn't need to be explained why that's a poor term. But if
you think Lars is an extreme talent to the other two you can simply state something like "i think we'd all agree that Lars is a special prospect and
is looked at in a different light". I would think you could also refer to Bates and his potential role in the major leagues a little better and still get
your point across. There's nothing wrong with being a 1b/DH/back-up type in the major leagues. A lot of people would kill for that opportunity and
it's a valuable role. See Sean Casey this year (I understand it's the end of his career, but remember how great Reggie Jefferson was for this team as
a PH).

Probably Suarez will be released since his contract is up at the end of the year (But so is Velaquez's)
So I guess Bates will be going up too I expected Anderson, slightly suprised about Diaz. but congrats to the both of 'em |

Diaz - I'm guessing Diaz got promoted due to his defense. Maybe they feel he'll never been a great bat so they'd like to see how he can handle some
higher level pitching. Word is his defense is ready for the show now and we all know there have been plenty of all glove no to little glove SS's over the
years.
The other point is that starting in low A he's hit better at each higher level. We've all seen plenty of guys hit better as the competition gets better. We read the scouting reports on him having trouble keeping focus in the field so he makes errors. Maybe it's the same thing at the plate. He's a streaky hitter which indicates he can handle pitching, but that he has trouble maintaining that groove - probably has a lot to do with mentality. WARNING: I'M NOT ABOUT TO COMPARE THESE TWO PLAYERS ABILITY: I've heard it asked before why Hanley put up pedestrian numbers in the minors. The reason had to do with him not feeling challenged and he was bored. It was written about a few times on his way up the ladder. He would usually start out hott at a new level and then he exploded onto the MLB scene when there were questions abound about whether he was ready. Maybe it will be similar to Diaz without the cieling offensively as a Hanley. Maybe he can get a .355 OBP and .425 Slugging with great defense. Sign me up for that. (purley speculation and i know people hate that, but i thought it was worth noting - time will tell - and his offensive numbers certainly don't tell the story). |

Great news for both and I hope they stick. I'm sure Lars will have no problems. Sooner than most expected, but definitely deserved.
In regards to Diaz, I'm not so sure this is a permanent promotion. Let's not forget that we have a starting SS on the DL in Boston which is causing a lot of shifting of middle infielders in the minors right now. Diaz may be filling a temporary need at SS in Portland. Not to mention Khoury is on the DL and Natale is rehabbing and could be back in AAA or AA soon as well (ok, he seems more like a DH these days, but this site still refers to him as a 2B). |

think is the reality for each prospect. However, that doesn't mean you have to just bash a couple of kids pursuing their dream to get your point across.
You have zero tact, you haven't improved your posting in the least and you're heading towards a ban.
