We don't have a lot of needs right now in Boston, other than maybe a 7th-8th inning reliever. That being said, we do have plenty of tradeable players
in the system. As we approach the trade deadline, which players have the best trade value and are unlikely to fill a major role in Boston now or in the
future? In other words, who could bring back the best talent without hurting our depth?
My Top 5:
1. Coco - Solid player, but I'd rather have Moss and Ellsbury getting his AB's.
2. Bowden - With all the young pitchers we already depend upon, and with Masterson looming, where is he going to fit?
3. MDC - His FB doesn't have enough movement, and I can't see him ever really dominating like we need him to. Personally, I wish we'd sold high
on him in March.
4. Carter - Teams that need a DH would value him more than we do, he might be a great third player in a major deal.
5. Kottaras - His D falls short of both Brown and Wagner, and they won't all get a chance to back up Tek next spring.

maybe add moss to the list with Coco as the 4th OF and Kielty and JVE in Pawtucket.
Obviously it wouldn't make sense to trade both Moss and Coco. I also can't see MDC getting traded. The bullpen is probably the greatest weakness of this team. I can't think of a reasonable scenario where trading him would improve this team, unless it's in a deal for Nathan or possibly Street. Even then I'd imagine the Sox would prefer to hold on to him. |

My Top 5
1. Clay Buchholz -- Unthinkable last winter it is possible that the emergence of Masterson and Bowden would make the Red Sox consider moving Buck if the right deal presented itself. 2. Michael Bowden -- In any deal the Red Sox will have to move a promising prospect and while Bowden projects as a 2-3 here, he could be a solid 2 with an NL team, especially if he found his way to a place like San Diego or Los Angeles. 3. Brandon Moss -- Moss's SSS OPS of .884 on the road and ability to play first, not to mention David Murphy's success, has to make him an attractive, low-cost, ready now option to many teams. 4. Coco Crisp -- He's not really a lead-off guy and he's lost most of his pop, but his glove and speed make him a great NL option. 5. Ryan Kalish/Josh Reddick -- You can always count on an A-ball guy being involved in any of these deals and these two kids have scouts drooling.

MY top 5
1) Masterson - Trade while he is hot. 2) Lowrie - If we are not going to play him let him go he is ready 3) Coco Crisp - He sucks we will get nothing but get rid of him. 4) Michael Bowden - I don't want to see him go but if we get more than what he is actually worth I do it. 5) Jason Pace/Kalish/ Reddick - Too many OF we can survive without one of them.
Boston doesn't deserve me.

1. Masterson: Very Young, Very Good, Large amount of potential
2. Crisp: Have 4 Starting OFs, and he's the odd man out 3. Carter: Ortiz is our DH, so there is no room for him 4. Brandon Moss: MLB ready and behind 4 starting OFs I'd list Bard, Buchholz, and Bowden, but I don't think we should trade them. Lowrie could be considered, but he's definatly going to be on the team next season whether it be at SS or Bench as IF. |
