Willie T. Smith III - RiverDogs continue domination of
Drive
Pendleton (3-2) shut the Drive out on one hit in six innings. He walked three and struck out the same number.
That was just a little better than Drive starter Felix Doubront (5-2), who was also excellent, giving up one run on five hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter in six innings.
Charleston scored the first run of the game in the sixth when centerfielder Austin Kerr singled through the infield, then crossed the plate on a one-out double to left by Brandon Laird.
It appeared the Drive had tied the game in the seventh.
Mike Jones walked. As he approached third on a two-out David Mailman double to center, he tripped and fell.
Jones still managed to get up and score the tying run.
Charleston appealed the play, saying Jones never touched third. Home plate umpire Jeremy Crowe agreed with the RiverDogs, calling Jones out and negating the run.
