Hagadone - TJ Surgery? |

This is NOT conirmed, but I've heard two rumors from people claiming to be in the know that Nick Hagadone will have Tommy John Surgery this week. If
so, thats terrible news. On the positive side, at least he'd be ready to go next year around his time, and would only substantively miss this season.
EDIT: Confirmed - Hagadone to have TJS on Tuesday.

Without having any sources on it, I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since he started grabbing his forearm.

Bad news if indeed it is true. Losing both Hagadone and Bailey this early in the season hurts.

Damn. Well, at least there's a recovery plan, unlike Austin Bailey. We'll see him pitch next May, and be effective again in April 2010.

Disappointing if this is true. Hagadone has looked good thus far in his early career. If this is indeed the injury, I wonder if this will push him to the
bullpen given he'll be recovering from TJ and never really had been stretched out in his Pro Career. MDC had a similar path following TJ surgery.

This is extremely frustrating, as it seems this has been happening to the Sox too much recently. Last year it was Caleb Clay, this year it's already Bailey
and Hagadone.

A little too much doom and gloom here. The recovery from TJ surgery is very good these days. Also, the Red Sox have had a very good run with almost no career
impacting injuries to pitching prospects. Bailey's injury is the first one in a while that is potentially career-threatening and we don't even have
definitive information on that. There is a huge difference between partial and full labrum tears and until we find out which it is we won't be able to
assess the full impact there.

It is too bad though. Interesting because the thought was that Hagadone didn't have many miles on his arm and consequently this wouldn't happen. I
think amfox is right, you can't predict mother nature. Real quick--I haven't been following sox prospects closely because of thesis and what not, what
happened to Bailey? I couldn't find a link or thread about him.

Bailey tore his labrum, which is the worst form of shoulder injury to ever recover from.

Ah, shit. I guess it's just kind of disappointing because with so many good prospects getting their shot at the bigs, I was really looking forward to
seeing Hagadone pitch. I guess it'll probably be a while.

I hope the TJ surgery doesn't take away from his ability to start. Although MDC turned into a reliever following TJ surgery, I don't think that was so
much because of the surgery right? I thought that was more because he couldn't throw strikes and he really only had two pitches. Maybe I'm wrong and
his control was off after the surgery. Hagadone looked like a real good bet for a starter, maybe the transition was too quick from closer to starter. Or, as I
said before, mother nature.

Ack, I had high hopes for Hagadone development this year. Suddenly I'm not excited about much of the Sox A pitching. Clay, Bard, Doubront will be
interesting to follow, but I'd love someone else to emerge from the lower level this year. Best of luck to Hagadone and a full recovery if this is indeed
confirmed. You never know, maybe we'll see him hitting higher on the gun as a result of this next August. ;-)
