I had a post a while back saying Lin would be a top 10 MLB prospect by the end of 2009, and would break into the red sox top 10 this year. So far, very close
on the latter, and still plenty of time to see on the former - but hes at least getting good results from his spectacular tools - discipline, speed, average -
haven't seen any defense but im assuming, considering the the quote that is the namesake of this thread, that it has been pretty good as well.

Call me crazy, but I think Lin is the 6th best prospect in the system. I have him behind, Clay, Masterson, Lowrie, Anderson & Bowden and slightly ahead of
Kalish, Tejeda, Moss, Reddick & Bard.
His mix of tools and production is outstanding.
I just don't like the attitude that the Yankees are all there is to baseball. And I've gotten that impression over the years. Screw them. -- Beau Vaughan

Does anyone know how to properly pronounce his name? In addition, we have another Taiwanese prospect (2B Lancaster Chih-Hsien Chiang) and can someone inform me
as to the what exactly is the correct pronunciation? Thanks in advance.

bdale, if go to the players profile, it will have the correct pronounciation at the bottom.
Chih-Hsien Chiang is pronounced Chee-sin Chang. Che-Hsuan Lin is pronounced Chee shoo-ahn Lin. |

I have him behind, Clay, Masterson, Lowrie, Anderson & Bowden and slightly ahead of Kalish, Tejeda, Moss, Reddick & Bard.I am not prepared to put Lin in the top 5 (Buchholz is not eligible and/or will not be eligible by the end of the week). To me, he is in the next grouping of outfielders with Kalish, Moss, Engel and Reddick. I am still refining my list but I expect him to be in the 8-12 range before the draft. CH Lin (19.1) - .770 OPS in A (before today's game) Kalish (20.1) - just getting up to speed in A (5G) Engel (20.11) - .804 OPS in A+ Reddick (21.3) - combined .878 OPS in A/A+ Moss (24.7) - .764 OPS in AAA/.900 OPS in Bos. (3G) |

Lin has already gained a latta popularity in TW, due to his outstanding performance few months back during the Asia Olympic Qualifying Tournament(I dont know
what's the formal title)
Seeing Lin getting some love from scouts and such, make me proud of being both a sox fan and a Taiwanese |

btw, if you really wanna be picky, there is no "the correct pronunciation" of Che Hsuan Lin
cause Che(in Chinese, it's 哲) is actually pronounce a lot like "Jer" instead of "Chee" |

An interesting first month for Lin.
.279/.385/.378 with 21 k's and 15 bb's in 111 AB. Also had 11 SB's and 3 CS. The walk rate is very strong. There isn't much power there yet but 9 out of 31 hits went for extra bases. The K rate (19%) may seem a tad high for a player of his skill set but that's far from unusual at this level. I think this would qualify for controlling the strike zone. Definitely one of the top 15 players or so to follow this year.

With Mailman standing on third after a triple, Lin decided to make a delivery of his own, driving in the game winner with a single past a pulled in infield. It
made the game a little easier to swallow, after going down looking 3 times on Saturday.

BA was reporting that both Lin and Chiang may be leaving their respective teams to work out with the Taiwanese team, to prepare for the Olympics. Is there any
truth to this? And if so, when would players begin this process?

Well, I doubt that BA would be lying. Got a link?

I do not have the link, but here is the quote in the Organizational Reports, from BA issue # 0809;
"The Red Sox are waiting to hear whether Taiwan will ask second baseman Chih- Hsien Chiang and centerfielder Che-Hsuan Lin to compete in the Olympics in Beijing this summer. The team is hopeful that Olympic participation might result in a waiver of military service obligations." Baseball America |

Wow. Very interesting. I'm sure the Sox would love to let those two play in the Olympics if it lets them out of their service obligation. It still
shouldn't be a problem - I remember a few Sox Aussies leaving their teams to participate in 2004. (John Stephens was one I think. Forget the other one)

to鐵廚,what pink hat girls ?
and I thought their dradt length were shorten already since they were both on the team for that tournament I mentioned. so it's really unnecessary to go if they dont want to, or the clubhouse can just say No. I dont believe it's gonna be a mandatory thing. I havent see any news from TW media about drafting both of them into the National team. actually I dont even read TW baseball news that much cause they only kiss MFY's ass. but I ll update the info if I read anything |
