I'm going to take the under...just because I don't think he'll go more than 5 innings.

So on Sundays most people prefer to get hammered and watch the favorite NFL team. I am in that boat myself.

I was thinking that too but I think the most innings he would go is 6 and that may be pushing it.

Does anyone knows the number of pitches limited per game at the second full season? I heard that starting pitchers are allowed 80 pitches at their first full season. I guess Masterson might be allowed to pitch a little more than 80 this season.

Ill be going to the game in CT tonight I think hell dominate the CT Defenders have a team average around 200 so it should be interesting

Im calling for 5 ip 2 or 3 hits 0-1 runs 9 Ks 7 ground ball outs

Smith Ks two in the 1st inning but it takes him 25 pitches to pitch to four batters (11 to the leadoff batter). No score, mid 1st. Could be a long day for the pen.

50 pitches through 2IP. Still no score, mid 2nd.

The PawSox load the bases with no outs in the 2nd behind a double by professional hitter Chris Carter and walks to Moss and Kielty but only score one run (Bailey K, Brown sac fly/Moss thrown out at 3rd). 1-0 PawSox, end 2nd

Since you said groundballs, and not groundball outs, I'll take the over.

In other news, can there be a more compelling Greek tragedy in this young season than that faced by Austin Bailey? First, he makes it to full-season ball in his first year out of HS, surely a sign he's impressed people. Then he gets thedreaded "meh" tag from temple, which is quickly recanted upon viewing him, including the rave "The ball explodes out of his hand." Only then, after riding this roller-coaster of ecstasy and agony in baseball prospectdom, he collapses in pain from a shoulder injury near the end of his first start, while temple is watching no less.

There's a book in there somewhere.

Smith Ks 2 in a 1-2-3 11-pitch 3rd inning. Now up to 61 pitches. 3IP, 2H (1 infield), 5/1 K/BB. Methinks Mr. Smith wants to stay in RI.

After a Thurston single and Lowrie walk, professional hitter Chris Carter drives in Thurston with an RBI single. Now 2-0.

I posted over at minorleagueball.com (Sickles' site) that Carter should be the recipient of the 2008 Josh Willingham award. Not a great prospect, but he can just flat out rake of course Sickles used more colorful language, but it still applies.

Carter is stroking. 5 doubles on the year already. You'd think that Moss would have the track on the spot though since they switched him to 1B full-time and Carter is playing LF or DH'ing like today. I suppose you could throw either Ortiz or Ramirez on the bench, but he's probably ticketed to bring in some help come July.

Very nice swing and approach though. Couldn't you just hit him like 10,000 balls a day?

Kielty singles and downtown Dusty Brown doubles in the 4th but the PawSox do not score.

Bailey and JVE are a combined 0/4 with 4Ks today. Ginter is 1/18 to begin the season.

Smith is out after 4IP, Big Edgar is in.

big edgar gives up a homer on a pitch right down the heart of the plate (at least according to gameday). i don't know what the pitch was though.
