Please place all information in this thread. http://www.beloblog.com/ProJo_Blogs/SoxBlog/ A group of about 12 players from Single A Lancaster will join the Sox in Los Angeles for the exhibition weekend against the Dodgers. The Lancaster team had to fly from Fort Myers to California anyway, so the Sox will take advantage to provide some depth for the series. Joining the Sox: pitchers Lincoln Holdzcom, Hunter Jones, T.J. Large and Jose Vaquedano; infielders Lars Anderson, Argenis Diaz and Joe Thurston; and outfielders Reid Engel and Jason Place. This is from a Sean McAdams blog piece this morning. I would be surprised if all of these players are going to Lancaster, so Sean may have miswritten. The one interesting name is Jose Vaquedano, whom I did not have making a starting roster. I would guess based on the blog piece that Anderson, Engel, Diaz and Place are all starting in Lancaster. Thurston obviously is starting in Pawtucket, together with Colon, Moss, Lowrie and Brown. Corsaletti returns to Portland with instructions to take fewer walks and begin driving the ball more. "Instead of seeing a lot of pitches and getting my walks, they want me to be more aggressive and let it fly," Corsaletti said. "They just want me to be more aggressive." Spending the off-season working on his strength with more intense workouts, Corsaletti didn't sacrifice his speed, lowering his time in the 60-meter dash from 6.7 to 6.5.

Under the assumption that these are all either Pawtucket or Lancaster players, which I'd say is a safe one, Vaquedano has come out of nowhere to make Pawtucket's roster. I'd also figured Large had earned a promotion to Portland last season. This should also end the Diaz to Portland questions. Of course, my assumption could be false as well. EDIT: As for Corsaletti, that directive from the Sox makes sense for him. The .385 obp is nice, but he struck out more than he walked last season (87 k/83 bb), and he had just a .364 slugging percentage. That latter number will only go down if he moves up a level with the same approach. I would not be surprised if Natale was given the same directive. If that is the case and he does start in Lancaster, it pushes Navarro down to Greenville unless they are planning on finding him consistent AB's in Lancaster. Under the assumption he goes to Greenville, you'd have Navarro, Tejeda, Dent, Rizzo, Jimenez, and Burgos at the IF positions and DH. I'd look at Dent and Rizzo as one of the guys to stay back in Florida. With the reports on Rizzo being pretty good, that could leave Dent as the one back at XST with the infield looking like: 1B Rizzo, 2B Navarro, SS Tejeda, 3B Jimenez, DH Burgos. Dent still looked pretty raw at ST so I guess we'll have to see when the info is posted tonight.

Do Diaz and Large make the Portland roster or will they play in Lancaster. Does Jones make the Pawtucket roster or stay in Portland. Does Vaquedano make a team at all? and then of course the others are fill-ins for the regulars (Thurston and Holdzcom) with a few Lancaster guys since they'll be there anyway. Holdzkom should be in Pawtucket, and Jones should be in Portland. Those are consistent with the placements in my Antonellis/Projo post above (which placements should be fairly accurate, since there are no minor league pitchers left in the major league camp. Large and Vaquedano are question marks. I would not be surprised to see either at Lancaster or Portland, although I'd be surprised if either was at Pawtucket.

I know he was there at the end of 2007, but guys like K Johnson, Wagner, and Khoury are on there. Then again, Borowiak and Suarez are still on there. That is still the 2007 roster. I would be shocked if Reddick started in Portland. I see no reason to skip him a level.

I guess I was a bit off base in that assumption, but to respond to raftsox's post, there's no way they're bringing guys there to answer questions. Their placements will be decided well before then if they're bringing them along to participate in Major League exhibition games. My new guess is that it's a combination with how the player will hold up in a Major League setting (i.e., we already know Diaz plays MLB-caliber defense) and perhaps a reward for a good camp or something. Scott White's sac-fly in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the game-winner. Zach Daeges added a home run and Dustin Richardson had an outstanding outing.

I didn't think of that. I wouldn't entirely rule out the idea that they're making a few last minute decisions based on first hand perception, but your thought does make a lot more sense.

Last night the Booster Club set up the locker room, (welcome letters, care packages, snacks, warm gloves because its freezing at night in the spring, stuff like that) and usually the guys have already requested which lockers they want and their names are on them. This year, nothing. Maybe the team wasn't final until they put them on the plane? Who knows? The Booster Club set up enough apartments so that they all have places to live until they've sorted out if they prefer to live in smaller groups, instead of 3 or 4 to an apartment, so they don't have to spent weeks in a hotel. You will all probably know the final roster before I do, because I am not staking out the stadium, or the apartment complex like a stalker, I'm way to old for that. Do you think the Sox are going to send "paper" inactive players out here again this year? edit... changed winter to spring because keep I forgetting it's freaking spring with the 20 degree winds. Wow, that pitching looks awful. 12 of the 13 pitchers are 23 or 24, with hardly a top arm in the place. All 13 are RH pitchers. Adam Mills should be fine. Beazley pitched well last year. Tony Bajockzy? James Russ (27 YO spot filler)? Clearly, they are not looking to put the top arms here after last year. A lot of guys that I thought were bubble guys made this roster. 2. Who didn't make it, pitching-wise, who we might have expected to see here: Kevin Guyette, Joe Guerra (I expected Greenville more than Lancaster), Kyle Fernandes, Cody McAllister 3. The offense is basically as advertised, except on the fringes. I felt Diaz would start here - he shouldn't be here too long. This is an unbalanced roster and, therefore, I expect some changes sooner than later. There is no backup corner IF and 5 OFs. Good for Zak Farkes, beating out Juan Apodaca for the backup C spot. Lara remains as a utility IF, which was a minor surprise. Nava and Sheely both being on the team is another surprise. Someone will get moved out when Reddick is ready to come West. 4. Who didn't make it, hitting-wise, who we might have expected to see here: Juan Apodaca, Yahmed Yema, Yamaico Navarro, Pedro Vasquez, a backup corner infielder. EDIT: Typos.
