A pretty interesting interview with PIT's Director of Player Development (other than the following collection of business school buzzword b.s.). Economies
of scale! Synergies!
7. Process changes. Other than accountability and follow up, what is the single most important process change you have implemented in the Pirates system. http://pittsburghpirates.buccoblog.com/ten-questions-with-pittsburgh-pirates-director-of-player-development-kyle-stark/ |

Anyone have an idea of when Clayton Kershaw gets called up to the majors?

Who cares, Porcello is better. And he's a RHP, so he isn't a bitch.

Porcello is also older and playing at a lower level and didn't impress as much in ST

He's not older, but I'll overlook that because we know you don't like math. He also was drafted a year after Kershaw, so the fact that he's
throwing his first professional pitches in high-A is fairly spectacular. And he also wowed people in spring training, so that's another lie.

I already cleared up that comment about who was older, and Kershaw threw 14 innings of 1-run baseball in the spring.

On Kershaw (from ESPN):
"Although there is no word that the Dodgers are "officially" considering it, there are already rumblings that Kershaw could open the season as the team's No. 5 starter, the Dodgers' official web site reports. Spin: I wouldn't be shocked," pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said of Kershaw opening the season in his rotation. "The stuff is there -- it's electric. His poise is uncanny for his age." We still think Esteban Loaiza is the leading candidate, but there seems little doubt at this point that we'll see Kershaw in Dodger blue at some point this season." "Kershaw tossed three scoreless, two-hit innings Tuesday in picking up a save against the Marlins. Spin: Just as important - no walks, and three strikeouts. Kershaw has a 1.29 ERA this spring and though he's most-likely destined for Triple-A, he may not be there long." "Kershaw had another eye-popping performance Tuesday, striking out six and allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings versus Milwaukee. Spin: Kershaw still probably opens the year in the minors, but keeping him as the No. 5 starter has probably at least been entertained somewhat. He could be up as soon as there's an injury or once Esteban Loaiza's ERA hits double digits." "Manager Joe Torre indicated that Kershaw was likely to open the year in Double-A, the Dodgers' official site reports. Spin: Torre made the comparison to Joba Chamberlain, indiciating that he expected Kershaw to help the club at some point this year." "Kershaw tossed four scoreless, one-hit innings Sunday against the Red Sox before being sent down to Double-A after the game. Spin: Kershaw ends the spring having allowed one run in 14 innings. We'll see him in Los Angeles sometime in the near future, perhaps as early as this summer. There's no better pitching prospect in the game." I'd say that is some pretty high praise.

Blah blah blah. I can play that game too:
"To me," Sardinha said, "it looks like he was in Double-A or Triple-A last year." "You see guys like that coming out of college once in awhile, but high school?" Sardinha said. "You have to give credit to him, his parents, his coaches-whoever taught him how to throw." "He looks like he belongs in major league camp," assistant general manager Al Avila said. "He's the full package that we expected." "He made a great impression and did a great job," Verlander, 25, said Wednesday. "He handled himself extremely well on and off the field. He's miles ahead of where I would have expected him to be as a high school kid, both on the mound and in the clubhouse. "What you see is what your scouts saw," manager Jim Leyland said. "You see the ultimate prospect. How soon will he make it? He could come quick. You don't know. That's one of those things. You've got a real nice present, but you can't open it yet." "He belongs in big-league camp," Leyland said. "He's one of the best-looking pitchers in this camp. Talent like that belongs in big-league camp."

"He looks like he belongs in major league camp,"
Well, I'm pretty sure Kershaw was in big league camp. Whatever, I think they're both pretty even, I only got into that because I wanted to hear an answer to my question and not a snide remark.

I thought the quote was saying that he wan't in big league camp and Avila is saying maybe he should be.

Alright.
Since I went to the trouble of finding spring training stats I might as well post them: Kershaw 14 innings, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 19 K, 3 BB, 1 HR Porcello: 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 2 BB

You understand that like for all players, spring training stats mean nothing.

For 19 and 20 year olds trying to make MLB rosters I would say ST stats mean something, especially those as good as Kershaw's.

Neither of those players had a shot at making a major league roster. You also seem to be forgetting that Kershaw has a year of professional experience on
Porcello. Kershaw was in minor league camp all of last year and started off the year in low-A. Porcello was in major league camp during his first spring
training and is starting off in high-A.
