I'm looking forward to hearing reports (few and far between?) about SS Rafael Espinosa. He'll be the most interesting prospect, to me at least, to
follow this summer in the DSL. I forget which member of the Sox organization thinks this kid will be very good. Maybe this dims the Sox interest in Salcedo,
especially with his price tag.

me too Boris, 250,000 is nothing to sneeze at internationally. Obviously we seem to know next to nothing about these guys, but it is always interesting to have
someone in the summer league to keep an eye on.

Another young pitcher has signed, Adam Spencer. It will be made official in early February after he passes a physical. He did not sign with the Red Sox
although they did make him an offer apparently.

There are rumors swirling around the Dominican Republic, as well as the Internet, that the Indians have signed 16-year-old shortstop Edward Salcedo, but as of today he is still a free agent.Source: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=721 |

Sox apparently interested in signing (or may have already signed) Japanese catcher Hayato Doue.[url=http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/]
Buried in some transactions earlier, Sox signed 26 year-old righty David Thorne out of Australia. Thorne was once considered a good prospect in the EXpos system bur disappeared after undergoing TJ surgery in 2005. Apparently reemeged this winter and caught Jon deeble's eye. Do any of our Aussie posters know more? |

Names to look forward in July
SANTIAGO, D.R.-In addition to the names we dropped earlier this week as potential big bonus players when the international signing period begins, here are some more who were featured in the same showcase as righthander Michael Inoa:Link Intersting blog

Thorne can get his FB up into the mid 90s with decent movement. Control/command is pretty suspect though. I wouldn't get excited he is damaged goods. Both
David and Aaron (David's younger brother) have gotten significant money and props as prospects buts both have flamed out quickly due to injuries (both have
had TJ along with other arm issues).

Speaking of the imprecision of predicting in January the top international signings for that July period: From NY Pinstripes
Apparently Jose Jose signed with the D-Backs for $125K |

Baseball America's recent
podcasts by Chris Kline (newly of the Pirates) have been from the Dominican republic. They say they're covering the Carribean WS, but they also
include quite a bit of other interviews, including the head of the Yankees' dominican language program, The Pirates' LA scouting director, and a report
from a scouting showcase (may or may not be the one listed above, I need to re-listen).

Talks about 6'7" righty Michael Inoa, 6'5" RHP Johenser Cevallos and OF Yorman Rodriguez (70's in both power and speed, may get Venezuela's highest bonus ever). |

The segment is at the beginning of the second of the "Chris Kline Dominican Extras" is from Luis Polonias academy and is about Inoa. The scouting
report has him throwing 91-92 (but up to 93-94) with very easy velocity from a tall, lanky frame. His breaking ball is just "Ok." His current bonus
demand is $5M, but is expected to come down.

I would love to get OF Yorman Rodriguez or OF Ezdra Abreu just so I can forget about somebody in the Rangers system.

Yeah, it hurt a little to read about Beltre in the BA prospect handbook.
