Yeah, i caught what you were saying, i was just pointing out that the +/- stat sometimes is kind of misleading. Personally, i think the bruins should just stay away from guys drafted in 1997, we seem to have no luck with them.

Holy friggin crap. I just saw one of the most amazing goals of my hockey watching life. I can now see how some people thought Evgeni Malkin was better than Ovechkin before the draft. Good God. It's just not fair that the Penguins of all teams get to have Crosby and Malkin.

Have you ever been put on a postage stamp? This goal from Peter Forsberg has. It clinched the ice hockey gold medal at the 1994 Olympics for Sweden.

Re: Bruins/NHL Thread | #32

He cleared waivers and was out-righted to Lowell.
I wonder if they're A: Letting him get playing time instead of being a healthy scratch or B: holding him as trade bait? He's a cheap defenseman and serviceable. With the new cap he has some value. Then again, he did clear waivers, so who knows... |

Re: Bruins/NHL Thread | #34

Boyes has 15 pts, not great totals, but not bad either considering he was being shifted around lines, Sturm the last few games looks like he finally has his legs back and is skating real well, he one the shootout against the Pens and had a goal in that game, he rang one off the post against Car and had multiple chances against them and played well against Tor..Sturm will heat up the more he skates with Bergie and Boyes, and the more PP time he sees, eventually I think he will replace Axlesson on the PP a bit more and play with Savard, which will increase his numbers. Also speaking of Savard...this kid has been great, ppl who said we overpayed for him are nuts...the knock on him was he took stupid penalties and didn't play d, well I haven't seen too much of that from him...as he is a plus 4 (after starting the seasdon prob a -5 or so and only has 14 PIM) nd he has been great on the PP

The one thing I've really noticed about Savard is that he always takes that extra second before making the pass. He doesn't rush when he gets possession. When he gets the puck in the circle in the offensive zone, he's generally going to create a good scoring opportunity

Re: Bruins/NHL Thread | #38

Thought I'd resurrect this thread due to the Bruins trade tonight and the deadline approaching.
Bruins trade Brad Stuart Wayne Primeau Conditional Draft Pick (4th Round 2008) to Calgary for Andrew Ference Chuck Kobasew The conditional pick goes to Calgary if they aren't able to re-sign Brad Stuart. If they sign him, we don't send the pick. ------------------------------------------------------ Its not a bad deal for the Bruins considering they traded two UFA rentals. Ference is a solid 5/6 defenseman on a good team who is signed to a great deal. He's also played really well in the playoffs. Kobasew is hurt right now and having a really down year, but he did score 20+ goals last year and is still only 24. Sturm's also a UFA and I expect to see him sent packing soon, hopefully with Murray's 4.1M cap hit next year. That would leave us well under the cap and in great shape for the summer. Trading these guys lets us give the young guys a taste, not to mention a draft pick in the 5-10 range (currently have the 9th worst record, but 5-10 are separated by only 4 points). EDIT: Added the specifics of the conditional pick |

Re: Bruins/NHL Thread | #39

My only problem with the trade is it further emphasizes how bad the Thornton trade was. I was desperately hoping that Stuart would turn into the #1 defenseman that I thought he could (don't get me wrong, that STILL wouldn't rationalize the trade but it'd make me feel better).
That being said, Stuard didn't and he, like you said, was leaving as a UFA anyway so, in the scheme of things . . . |

Yeah, Chia didn't make the Thornton trade though, MOC did. I said it when it happened that the Thornton trade was absolutely terrible...not really much Chia could do about it. The only thing maybe would've been to either trade Stuart earlier in the season (when his value was higher) or to hold out on a trade a little longer to see what people were getting. We probably could've gotten another high pick with the two players if we held out until the deadline.
