And despite that, and Ray and KG both having off nights, the the Celtics still won. I love this team.
Major props to Paul Pierce, Tony Allen, and BIG BABY who contributed the most to tonight's victory.

Tonight was one of the most poorly officiated games I've seen in a long time (even for NBA standards, which is saying A LOT).
And despite that, and Ray and KG both having off nights, the the Celtics still won. I love this team. Major props to Paul Pierce, Tony Allen, and BIG BABY who contributed the most to tonight's victory.

Did the Celtics really just lose 2 games in a row to the Wizards? It's not just the losses that concern me--as even the best teams in the NBA (or any
sport) go through stretches where they don't play well--but rather the fact that the team could only average about 80 points in the 2 games combined
against the horrendous Washington defense.
Anyway, it's becoming really fun watching the plays that Doc draws up out of timeouts. He's a truly brilliant coach.

WillyCoPapi3 wrote: Actually the Washington D has been quite good since Arenas got hurt. They are a better team without him anyways. All teams are going to go through losing streaks. Its part of the game. Hell the Pistons got hammered against the Knicks on Sunday at the Garden. The Wizards are not a bad team. Give credit to them for coming back. How about blaming the Celtic players for not being aggressive instead of bashing the coach every chance you get. They are more to blame than anyone for tonights loss. |

Actually it's all my fault. Attended the last 2 home losses. I'll stay away for now.

Because the coach was the one who put together some absolutely terrible lineups late in the game. Tony Allen was one of the few guys playing with energy last
night, and yet he was benched because Ray Allen--despite his struggles for much of the game--just HAD to be in there to try and close it out. Meanwhile Eddie
House, who is only useful when he's shooting the ball well, was having a terrible shooting night but was left in over Tony because (at least in Doc's
eyes) only veterans are allowed to be on the court late in close games. God forbid the players who were working the hardest and having the best games be left
out there to try and close it out. Anyway, it was soon after this substitution that the Wizards went on their run to get back into it.
And I really don't understand Doc's strange obsession with going small ball. Besides the fact that it works probably less than 5% of the time, going small against Washington, who is a VERY good offensive rebounding team, makes no sense whatsoever...particularly when the team had established a double digit lead with a traditional lineup on the floor. And why couldn't Big Baby play with KG ever considering it was that combination that won the game in Detroit? I understand that every team goes through stretches where they play poorly. Games like the ones against Charlotte and the one in Washington on Saturday happen, even to the best teams (which the C's are). But losing a double digit lead in the 4th quarter at home to a less than spectacular Wizards team is unacceptable.

I haven't had the opportunity to see too many games out here on the west coast, but I regularly read the box scores, and lately it seems like the Celts
have not been rebounding well, and even though they won tonight, they gave up 18 offensive rebounds (while only getting 20 on defense). That just looks bad.
Can anyone who actually saw the game shed some light on whether or not the actual games have been as bad as the box scores suggest?

oh, i get it. more of that sarcastic wit, right? he should have taken out ray allen to put in tony allen. hah hah. that is good stuff. i'm not going to fall for that one again. You're a dumb piece of shit. In that scenario, it wasn't necessarily about taking out Ray Allen for Tony Allen, but rather about taking out a player who was struggling and putting in a player who had been one of the team's top performers for that game. See the difference? I am in no way advocating that I'd rather see Tony Allen playing down the stretch of games over Ray Allen most or all of the time. And FYI, a good family friend of mind is really close with the Celtics' team trainer so some of my opinons and information on Doc is actually firsthand knowledge. edit: Oh, and way to completely twist my words around. In my post, I stated that BOTH Ray Allen and Eddie House were having an off night while Tony was having an excellent game...and yet BOTH House and Ray were in there at the end while Tony was sitting on the pine. In no way did I say that Ray definitely should've been benched for the game's conclusion, but instead was advocating that Doc should've found a way to get Tony in there. Anyway, I'm done with this little debate.

fyi, since you are not the celtics trainer, but he is a family friend, that would be second hand information. and it makes your opinion no more valuable than
anyone else's. see the difference? i know that you think that you are very smart, but your intellect is really not impressing this dumb piece of shit.
why don't you try some more sarcasm.
edit: oh, i just noticed that the family friend is close with the celtics trainer. you're calling that first hand knowledge? now i see why that makes you so qualified to criticize doc's coaching decisions. you are a fucking genius

congratulations to doc rivers on being named the head coach for the eastern conference in the 2008 nba all-star game. the celtics, with an nba best record of
33-6, have clinched the top spot in the east two weeks before Feb 3, which is when the top record determines the coach from each conference. way to go doc and
staff. way to go celtics on a brilliant first half (almost)

So, today the Celtics kinda broke this little drought and beat the San Antonio Spurs for the first time since Duncan has entered the league (I only wish I
wasn't wokring and could've acutally seen the game!). And to do it without their starting bigmen combo of Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins makes it
that much more impressive!
One thing that I have found encouraging is that the Celtics continue to find ways to win even when player(s) is/are out with injury. Not only has KG been out for a little while (and I like that the C's are letting him get fully healthy ala the Red Sox with Beckett and Schilling), but Ray Allen, James Posey, and now Kendrick Perkins have all missed some games here of there with injury. And yet this team doesn't seem to miss too many beats. It's nice to know that other players are capable of stepping up in difficult situations when needed (especially guys like Powe and Big Baby), as that will more than likely pay huge dividends at some point later this season and into the playoffs. Oh, and while I wouldn't consider myself to be a Doc Rivers fan, I feel as though he deserves a huge chunk of credit for some of the coaching he's done with KG unavailable...particuarly in Friday night's game against the T-Wolves. I LOVED that he allowed the "2nd unit" (Powe, BBD, House, Rondo, and Posey)--who were playing extremely well--to play the majority of the 4th quarter instead of just throwing Pierce and Ray Allen--who were having "bleh" games by their standards--back out there for the stretch run. Such an oppurtunity may not only provide the bench players with some valuable end of the game experience, but it may go a long way in helping them to gain some confidence knowing that their coach trusts them enough to play them in key minutes.

And it will keep Pierce and Allen from getting overworked and help keep them fresh for the playoffs.

They were playing some outstanding defense today. The Spurs were actually scoring at better percentages that the C's have been giving up but it just seemed
that every single possession they were tipping passes, and forcing tough shots.

I didn't see the game today, but I read the box score. The Celtics had a huge edge in personal fouls/free throws. Was the officiating objective or were the Celtics getting a little bit of home court favortitism? Ray Allen should've been named the MVP of last night's All-Star game.
But, considering LeBron has been handed EVERYTHING to him since stepping foot onto an NBA court, I didn't expect anything different to occur last night. Oh well.

Lebron did almost have a triple-double, and a phenomenal dunk to ice the game. Ray was great as well, but Lebron did earn the award.

The next time Ray Allen has the ball in his hands and an open look at a 3 then passes I might snap. That and listening to the homerism and bashing of refs on
the Celts broadcast is naueseating but these west coast games the calls, especially the Nuggets game its just scary bad.

The NBA needs to spend whatever it takes to improve their officiating. Its amazing, there isnt a player bias, or a team bias anywhere that I can see. But its
impressive that every team in the league doesnt go 41-41. Maybe I'm just way off but the home team always seems to have a 6th man wearing grey.
