Tiger Death House has crushed a lot of pitchers in his early career. But there's no player he has done more damage to than Yo, Anthony Garcia. My goodness, what does a 17-year old SS with an .800 OPS in the GCL have to do to get noticed around here?
Edit: Does that read like a crappy lede in a high school newspaper?
That post aspires to be high school quality.
Nonetheless, the underlying truth must be discussed. Garcia is having a very nice little season at age 17. No power to speak of (not surprising), but good
plate awareness (12/14 BB/K ratio after today) and decdent contact skills (14K in 80 PA). Suddenly you look up, and you've got Lowrie, Diaz, Navarro,
Tejeda, Kelly, Gibson and Garcia as SS prospects. Me thinks five years from now, the Lugo era will be but a distant, yet painful, memory.
