On a 1-2 count Middlebrooks stays back nicely on a change-up and sends a single back up the middle, 4 hits in his last 6 PA's with a rbi sac fly in the
past two games.

Sumoza really has the power stroke working lately. Any chance we see him get some Greenville AB's before years end?

The live recaps are tremendous as Bill Walton says, gentlemen. Thanks from those who can't watch at work right now.
Those 4 hits in his last 6 PA's for WMB have all been to CF and RF as well. It's been a recent trend in the past few weeks and the hits are starting to pile up. |

I think it's time for Sumoza's entry into the top 60 on this site.
In case you were wondering, I'm not temple, but I play him on TV.

After three great innings by Castillo, the wheels come off in the 7th, and we now have a 3-3 game.
Two of the runs were charged to Castillo, the other to Herold.

Castillo's ability to go deep in games is really starting to become and issue. He just loses it as he goes deeper into games, which is a shame given his
ability to strike guys out. Probably has a lot to do with his weight.

Cabreja hits a 2-run HR in the 9th. Spinners lead 5-4.
Edit: WMB follows that up w/a 2B.

To be fair, Castillo got eight straight outs, gave up two singles and then K'ed a batter. In his fourth inning, he put two on with two out, was pulled and
Mitch Herold gave up a game-tying home run.
Now, I wasn't watching and I understand from previous outings that Castillo has had problems maintaining velocity over multiple innings, but this is not a big deal. He will gain strength and stamina and, if not, will project as a reliever. |

Cabreja loves to hit the lefties this year.
"MVP Tony G. knows not of these attitude transgressions. He sees ball. He hits ball. He fields with the grace of Brian Boitano. His sweat quenches the
collective thirst of small towns in Ohio and his flatulence fuels Venezuelan power generators with no greenhouse gas emissions." ~ Hairps, bringing the
Granadillo love.

Sumoza just turned 20 on July 15. Is this evidence that if talented teenagers do not do all that well in their first couple of years it should not be taken too
seriously?

I haven't been following Minor League baseball for very long, but isn't it a virtual certainty at this point that Sumoza is a Rule-5 casualty?
There's virtually no chance he makes the 40 man roster by the end of next year, so I would think he's gone. Am I missing something?

Welcome ThSneak. It's not certain, and most likely not even probable. But there is a chance that some team grabs him on a lark just to see if he can stick.
The way I approach these Rule 5 issues is usually to just take them year by year. It's really tough to worry about next year's possibilities when so
many intervening events can happen in the next 1.5 years.

ThSneak wrote: Next year will be his 5th season and will be on a full season club, the Sox will evaluate if they want let him off the 40 man roster or protect him as they
did with Diaz last year to the shock of everybody I might add. I wouldn't say he is gone because if has a good season next year they'll protect him.
Also as temple says its hard to predict whats going to happen a year in advance, hopefully we don't lose him.
Boston doesn't deserve me.
