But maybe the team that is trading for him will pick his option up.

true on Pap coming from AAA (4 starts). Maybe Bard won't be ready, but a reliever has a better chance to move faster than a starter does. I'm just
saying out of the guys down there, sans Masterson, IMO he has the best chance to make an impact this year... not necessarily the highest probability to get
called up, but he intrigues me the most as the one that could potentially actually have a big impact if he did get a chance. He could bust out too, but his
stuff is better suited than the rest of them. Lentz only has 4 AA appearances and coming of TJ...
As far as the SS's go. I dont like any of them out there other than maybe Cristian Guzman. He's a FA after the season and Washington is out of it and Bowden loves to deal. He also usually asks for too much though. I'd like to see Guzman at short for the right price. |

The Pirates believe Marte will be a Type A free agent after the season. It has been speculated that the Pirates will decline his option year and pick up draft
compensation, which would make much more sense for a rebuilding team like the Pirates.
If they go that route, I doubt Marte would accept arbitration, as he will want to sign a longer deal. Accordingly, the Pirates won't trade him low, as they are expecting some sexy draft compensation for him. Here's a link concerning this subject which confirms: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08174/891827-63.stm "Marte, currently making $2.15 million, has a $6 million club option for 2009 that has no chance of being exercised. Once that option is denied, he can become a free agent. Free agents of the highest pedigree fall into what is called the Type A classification. Those are not determined until after the season, but the Pirates' internal calculations are that Marte should qualify."

Pablo Ozuna rejected his outright assignment today and is now a free agent. He hits lefties well and brings speed and versatility to the table. If the Sox are
looking for help at SS while Lugo is out or an upgrade for the bench, he'd make a lot of sense. If the Sox can free a spot on the 40-man roster, it'd
make a lot of sense to sign him and allow Lowrie to get consistent ABs in Pawtucket.

Any chance the Astros would consider a SS swap Lugo/Tejada with the some decent prospects to save them some $$ and help in their rebuilding (we have a glut of
ML outfielders).

Every Red Sox fan in the world wants Lugo traded. The reality is that Lugo has about as much trade value as Richie Sexson had. Even if the Red Sox threw in 15 million dollars, very few teams would bite. I don't think anyone would touch him at SS, since he can't play the position very well, you would need to find a team that is desperate for help at second base. I suppose the Red Sox could trade him for Barry Zito--now we are talking. LOL. I suppose the Mariners could have traded Richie Sexson for Zito as well. Update on the Pirates: "The Pirates have plenty of players that contending teams are interested in, but Huntington is driving a hard bargain. According to various
industry sources this week, the Pirates want two high-level young players and a second-tier prospect in any trade for left fielder Jason Bay and at least one
top youngster and one solid prospect in return for right fielder Xavier Nady, shortstop Jack Wilson and left-handed relievers John Grabow and Damaso Marte.

the Mariners are the most logical place to dump Lugo. I am sure Carter + Zink+ Pauley + Lugo could get you Betancourt and Rowland-Smith.

Maybe if you REMOVED Lugo. It's getting to the point where a package of A + B + C is worth a lot more than A + B + C + Lugo.

Im not sure why so many people are in love with Salty. His splits are awful and he's not been hitting anything left handed pitching. Maybe this is due
to the fact that he was brought up so quickly so he could be traded away from the Braves. But I'm not a fan of him. I am more high on a guy like
Iannetta. Towles started out as a hot bat in Houston, but is hitting under .200 and with Castro being drafted this year, Who knows. His value is gradually
declining I'd think. With a cluster of draft picks this year and Wagner, Brown, Exposito, etc in the minors there is a group that can at least produce
something that should be an upgrade over Kevin Cash. |

TokenWilliams wrote: Wasn't Pap a late season call-up his first year? Maybe the element of surprise is part of the equation. Hold Bard out until September and then give him 30 days to get oriented and add him to the playoff roster. Maybe he gives you a handful of innings throwing 98 and gives the opposition fits because they have never seen him before... just a thought... |

woolly93 wrote: Pap was a late season call up after dominating the Eastern League as a starter. Bard isn't dominating and he's in a relief role. Bard's fastball is 98 but its surprisingly hittable for being so fast. Considering his secondary pitches are well below average at this point, I think major league hitters would just be able to sit on the fastball. |

Not sure why....
The Red Sox are deep in conversations with the White Sox on a trade that would send infielder Juan Uribe to Boston, according to sources. Link

It's not clear who the White Sox would get in return for Uribe, but one possibility is Alex Cora, the utility infielder who has fallen out of favor in Boston. Cora's brother, Joey, is the White Sox's bench coach.Tito is not happy.
