As the season moves on I am starting to worry about the status of talks between the Sox and Theo concerning a contract extension. After the debacle a few years ago I cannot help but worry that we may be headed for another blowup this offseason. I'd love to think that John Henry learned his lesson the first time and won't let Lucchino anywhere near these talks. After yet another great draft this year the Sox organization is healthier than ever, coming off 2 world series championships and having a loaded farm system which seems to get deeper and deeper each year. I certainly feel that Theo is worthy of a contract comparable to any GM in baseball. I think 5yrs/$13-15 million is a reasonable deal. This organization is way too healthy right now and I would be super disappointed if they were to lose an enormous piece of the puzzle such as Theo. I think Henry needs to call Theo into his office and give him what he wants and stop sitting around like last time.

I wasn't aware that Theo's contract was up at the end of the year. It was my understading that they didn't release the terms of his contract to
prevent another public debacle.

He's on a three year contract for 2006 - 2008. No terms other than contract length are disclosed (at least not on Cot's).

I think he's kind of busy during July and August seeing if their are any missing pieces to the major league roster, and attempting to sign some of the
draftees. I think there will be no gorilla suit involved this time, and Henry will handle it when the time is right. I don't think the same power struggle
exists, and it's safe to say that Theo got what he wanted the first time around. Theo is in control of acquisition/rosters, with Luchinno sticking to what
he does best, making the owners money off the field and around the ballpark.

Not that we have any indication of this, but is Theo the type of ambitious person who might look for a challenge elsewhere? I presume that if he marketed
himself, he would have a choice of Kings' ransoms for franchises not in as good shape as the Sox currently are -- and Theo is smart enough to realize that.
I realize that the Sox are supposedly his dream job, but could he have a sense that the job "is done"? There's nothing to prevent a GM from
declaring himself a free agent. This is the only circumstance that I can see that could get in the way of the Sox resigning him. Against such a backdrop,
Theo's comments about hoping some people under him get GM consideration takes on a different meaning. His comments could be taken as a suggestion, if he
does leave, that the Sox consider promoting from within.

I understand what you're trying to say ASF, but like you said, its always been his dream job and I cant see any knowledgeable baseball person ever feeling
that his job is done as a GM. It's not as if he's created a true dynasty even. He's got family and friends here as well as a charity organization
with his brother. I mean what other GM job has more to offer? I think it would be far more likely he'd eventually get into a different arena all together
and work solely charity work or something like that, but I can't see Theo taking the SF Giants job or something.

OK asf, gotta admit, you have me thinking there. Talk about a huge improvement in presidential candidates !!! ( And that doesn't even take into
consideration the fact that half of the Steinbrenners would be a huge improvement).
