Totally. I mean, if the Sox were riding something like a 6 game winning streak to reclaim first place without him, then it wouldn't be a problem. But since they are clearly fumbling and showing an inability to score runs, it's better to risk it. Oh, wait....

I just think Ortiz is a different case because he only does one thing, hit. I like Casey as a bench player, but I'm not a big fan of him being the everyday DH. I fail to see the difference in risk between him hitting in Pawtucket, Portland, or Seattle. Is he incapable of getting hurt in the minor leagues? He's either able to hit, or he isn't. I don't know what your definition of able to hit is. He doesn't need to get his defense ready or anything like that, you can always pinch run for him in the 6th/7th inning if they only want to limit him to 3 or 4 ABs, then the DH would be Sean Casey for 1 AB instead of 4, I could see how that wouldn't help the Red Sox.
