From the article:
"I think I was 2-for-5 with a double and a single," he said. "Made a nice play in the hole. Not too bad. My double was off the Monster, but [I] didn't get it over it." he will then have another decision to make: shortstop or pitcher?
Boston doesn't deserve me.

It's a real cool idea, the workout thing. It would have been nice if it was a bit more accessible...but I don't think they really give a damn either
way about that and with good reason.
I don't buy that Kelly doesn't remember either. You would remember something like that, I would think. |

24 hours is a long time to ask a kid to remember his first game at Fenway Park.

Based on the videos circulating on various media websites detailing draft day for Kelly, I'm fairly certain he's got other things on his, uh, mind.
And good for him. Enjoy it buddy, see you in the GCL soon enough..... |

Westmoreland was not at Fenway yesterday. I take it that's a bad sign.

From the Kelly article:
But he was in Boston on Tuesday, and actually got to play at Fenway Park in some sort of intrasquad game that included Draft picks and/or potential signees.I'm sorry, how does this sentence actually make it into copy? If you ever use the words "some sort of" in an article, isn't it prima facie evidence that you're not doing your job as a reporter?

Andrew (Exeter): Have you heard any news about the Red Sox tough signs?

This came out of nowhere (from KLaw's chat):
Andrew (Exeter): Have you heard any news about the Red Sox tough signs?I don't think anyone has mentioned Moore's name since we drafted him. Here is Moore's scouting report from PG: SCOUTING REPORT (3/1): Moore will be one of the more interesting puzzles for scouts to figure out this spring-depending, of course, on his health. The very athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound righthander was the top prospect on the Perfect Game 2008 follow list a year ago, but underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2007, which sent him to the sidelines. Prior to hurting his arm, Moore had a very quick, strong arm with an easy delivery. He threw in the low-90s consistently and was up to 95 mph with an upper-70s hammer curveball. He was named MVP of the 2006 World Wood Bat Association 16-and-under summer championship and put on a dominating performance on both sides of the ball. He flashed the same stuff and body type as a young Dwight Gooden. If Moore shows his pre-surgery stuff and clears medicals with teams, he moves way, way up draft lists. He has signed with Vanderbilt, so college will definitely be in the equation.-

Steve (Houston): Keith -- Because of Wayne Graham's abuse of pitchers, when MLB teams draft a Rice pitcher do they just assume he'll need surgery at some point? THanks.

Anyone know what Moore's bonus demands are like? I hadn't seen a scouting report on him before that one, which is positively glowing. I personally am
not interested in letting any more potential elite prospects escape to Vandy.

"I'm very excited as catching is very thin in their organization," he said.Yea, and you're like 7th on the organizational depth chart, so what does that say about you?

Doesn't say anything important. What he's saying is that the catching is iffy enough that 6 good months would have him zooming up the depth charts.
Of course, if he can't produce those good 6 months ..... OOPS -- I see that Token beat me to it. |

The notion that catching is thin in our system is misguided. Catching is thin in baseball, so of course it's going to bet a position in higher demand. But
I'm willing to be that the catchers we have from triple-A on down to Greenville at least rank as average when compared with other systems.

I agree 100% Temple. I would probably put the Sox catching "depth" in the top third. There's no A+ standouts, but there's a decent prospect
starting at almost every single level, and in some places two.
