Y'know, the only way the Sox are going to get the message across to Dice-K that he needs to throw strikes is to pull him out of a game like this one now,
when he has the lead, so he can't get the win. Maybe then he'd go after people. The guy reminds me of the 2006 Lester, who had no command, was
constantly putting men on base, but pitched to a good ERA for awhile before it caught up to him. Of course, Lester at least had the explanation that he had a
developing cancer issue. Dice-K may have the surface record of a #2 starter, but he's pitching like a #4 starter at best, and it figures to catch up to him
eventually.

Interesting fact: The Red Sox last cycle was 1996. In that time, the team has thrown 4 no-hitters. This is not the record for most no-hitters between cycles.
The Dodgers have thrown 6 since Wes Parker hit for the cycle in 1970.

No it isn't. Well, this tells you all you need to know about Varitek's struggles. Glover gives an IBB to the RHH to face the SH Varitek.

That was the most predictable result ever... im really glad mauer took over Tek in All-Star voting. It would have been a travesty otherwise..

So the only way we're going to "teach" him not to issue so many BBs is to take away a W from him? That's rediculous. If he cares about stats,
then he cares about BBs too. That's not even mentioning the fact that this implies that he's so dense that a hard lesson is going to suddenly make him
able to throw more strikes - this implication has absolutely no basis in fact whatsoever.

Okajima in the 6th. Delcarmen in the 7th.... Methinks the bullpen shake up is on.

It's not like he doesn't care about his command issues. I doubt he doesn't realize he has some kind of problem going on. Taking him out when
he's pitching effective enough to win a game would just be piling on.

Switching Delcarmen for Hansen with a two run lead and a man on third with no outs? I feel safe.

How freaking hard is it to cover first when there is a ball hit to the right of the first baseman.

I suppose the question is, is he pitching this way because he has command issues, or is he pitching this way because he doesn't trust his stuff? Temple has
been saying that the Sox have been playing scared this series. Although I don't think that's true in general, it looks to me sort of like Dice-K's
been pitching scared all year. And it's hurting the team - it's one major reason that the Sox pen has been piling up appearances and innings this
season.

Bring Clay and up put Masterson in the pen as soon as possible, he could be the set-up guy right now.
