Wow. The North is going to destroy the South. I've never seen such disproportionate talent in an ASG of any kind.

Congrats to former Sox non-prospect and friend of SP.com Randy "I am" Newsom on making the team as well. He will clearly make the Red Sox regret that Coco Crisp trade.

DAEGES & VAUGHAN ADDED TO ALL-STAR GAME ROSTER
07/11/2008 The Eastern League in conjunction with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats have announced that Sea Dogs' outfielder Zach Daeges and pitcher Beau Vaughan have been added to the Eastern League All-Star Game. The All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 16th at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Daeges and Vaughan will join teammates Bubba Bell, Michael Bowden, and Jeff Corsaletti at the All-Star Game. Daeges replaces Nick Evans on the Northern Division roster. Evans was called up from the Binghamton Mets to the New York Mets. Vaughan will take the roster spot of Michael Bowden. Bowden will attend the game but will be unavailable to pitch. The All-Star Game will feature the Northern Division All-Stars against the Southern Division All-Stars. Each team will consist of 24 players. The All-Star teams were selected through fan balloting along with selections from media personnel, club field personnel, and Eastern League administrators. Each Eastern League team has at least three players, including at least one pitcher and one position player. The 24 year-old Daeges has appeared in 62 games for the Sea Dogs hitting .295. He was selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for May after hitting .411 with 11 doubles and 14 RBI. He ranks third in the Eastern League with a .421 on-base percentage. Daeges reached base safely in 32 consecutive games from April 9th through June 2nd. It is the second longest streak in the Eastern League this season and fourth longest in franchise history. Last season with Single-A Lancaster, Daeges led the California League with 125 runs, 113 RBI, 170 hits, 81 extra base hits, 55 doubles, and ranked third in the league with a .330 average. He was selected to the California League All-Star team. The Harlan, Iowa resident was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the June 2006 draft. Vaughan has made 31 appearances for the Sea Dogs posting a 1-1 record with a 2.56 ERA. His 12 saves leads all Red Sox farmhands. Vaughan has not allowed an earned run in 15 of his last 16 appearances including a 20.1 scoreless inning streak. Last season with the Sea Dogs, he tied for the team lead with 42 appearances notching a 1-3 record with 6 saves and a 3.34 ERA. The 27 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the third round of the June 2003 draft. |

probably because they want to shut him down for one start and give him some rest to limit innings. I don't think its anything to worry about

ziggy, that's old news. Amfox was just pointing out that Vaughan was taking Bowden's spot. I'd also argue that the fact that Bowden will be
attending is significant, since it means he's not getting promoted any time before then.

FYI
The All Star game was great. Nice job by the Fisher Cats staff. All but one thing waited in line for almost 2 hours for autographs and then was turned away. Which is a no big deal since it was free but when you are a father of 2 little boys and you watch adult after adult walk away with folders and bats signed and very few kids doesn't seem right. They should really make those type of events for kids only. |

Agreed. There aren't many things creepier in life than adult autograph hounds.

After a mediocre first round, Travis Snider absolutely exploded in the second round of the home run derby. He hit moon shot after moon shot, completely
captivating the fans and other players. The kid has unreal power.

David Laurila wrote: If he harnesses his control he is going to be a very interesting reliever. Looking at walks per IP thus far for the season, he is at 0.44 (17 walks in 39
innings). Here is a quick walks/IP comparison to see where he stands with other relievers who are having some success at higher levels in the organization:

grabsmaine, you're on the right track, but the stat used is typically bb/9 inn. Here's those numbers for those players:
Lentz 4.89 BB/9 Vaughan 3.92 BB/9 Bard 3.00 BB/9 (4.32 in Portland) Smith 1.57 BB/9 Smith's number is very good. The other three leave a bit to be desired.
