Chuck Korb (Frisbetarian at SoSH) is running an 8 week class at MIT for their HSSP summer session titled Sabermetrics, Scouting, and the Science of
Baseball. Two of the classes in this session are being opened for free to the public, and the membership here has been expressly invited to attend. The
open classes will be held on July 13, when Mitchel Lichtman, UZR creator and consultant to a number of MLB teams, and David Gassko, regular contributor to The
Hardball Times, and also a former consultant to an MLB team, will discuss pitching metrics and defensive evaluation systems. The other open class will be on
August 3 when Joe Bohringer, MIT grad and professional scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks, will discuss what tools he utilizes when assessing a player and take
questions from the audience. The July 13 class will run from 10 AM to noon, and the August 3 class will start at 9 AM and go until 11 AM or so.
