I posted them in the thread I posted, but here they are.
Almanzar looked awesome offensively, and also looked very good defensively. I spent a lot of time on the 3rd base side of the diamond just to watch his fielding. When he was picked off, I don't know what he was thinking.. he just kind of took off before the pitcher even began his move, from what I saw.. it was very ugly looking, but it was about the only bad thing he did all day. Tyler Yockey also looked great today. Wang Li-Yin pitched solidly through 4 innings. I noticed is that Pete Gilardo takes his work as a catcher almost far too seriously and lets it impede the next AB he's catching. He allowed a few passed balls and looked very shaken by it. Di Benedetto got hit in the head with a pitch but was okay.. apparently he crowds the plate quite a bit and the pitchers don't like it. Pedro Perez didn't have a good 9th, the blown save he had was pretty ugly, but he still picked up the win. In other news, Swen Huijer is freaking huge, jesus f'ing christ! It's almost scary how big he is, hard to believe Randy Johnson is taller than he is. |

Since 2005 I have trusted the sox scouting department more and more, they really seem to have their stuff together when it comes to finding and signing premium
talent. I'm really not worried about the recent draftees. The Sox have shown they will spend money on these kids when they think it's worth it. Henry
and co. have to see that these investments have been more than worth it the last couple years.

Thanks NH. Not many message boards can get reports about their prospects in the complex leagues. We appreciate your help.

The Spinners have really struggled at the plate thus far the season. The pitching has been carrying the club thus far. Britton seemed to have his control fail him tonight. I think that is something that is going to plague him from time to time early in his career as he needs to work on repeating his delivery and getting it under control. Without seeing him, I can only speculate that is what was going on tonight, but from what I have seen of him, he loses command of his fastball when his delivery gets out of whack. When he is under control and able to locate his fastball, he's going to be pretty effective as it has good life on it. Ups and downs of a young pitcher, but it is definitely something to watch for as he begins his career with the Sox. Although he didn't get hit too bad tonight, the walks point towards him struggling with his delivery quite a bit tonight.

Has anybody had the chance the watch any of the Greenville games with Weeden behind the plate? 9 passed balls at this point in the season. Is there a
particular area he seems to be struggling with?

I was at the Portland game. Nothing special happened, the highlight was a VERY nice catch by Iggy Suarez in shallow right that looked a bit like the Aaron Hill
diving grab, though it was a bit more of a stumbling catch than a diving catch.
Jackson and Tabata looked good for Trenton. Nobody was lighting up the radar gun at all. Very sloppy with a few misplays in the outfield, I believe all of which were by Trenton. Mickey Hall hit one a long way for a double that looked to be gone, there was a light drizzle that might have kept the ball in the park. Bates and Bell did nothing special. The Daeges assist at home got the runner by about 15 feet, there wasn't even a slide/bulldozer attempt, the runner just slowed up and let himself get tagged. I was pissed there wasn't a big collision. One last comment - Portland fans are the quietest fans I've ever seen. There's nothing wrong with sitting and just watching the game, that's what I usually do, but the atmosphere just stunk. First of all the park was never more than half filled, and in the later inning when it got cold it was probably 1/5 filled. Very, very quiet.

Beat UM and UF wrote: Yes, "passionate" is not a word you'd use to describe Sea Dog fans. People like to bring their kids for six innings and enjoy the
"mini-Fenway" atmosphere the Dogs organization has cultivated, and maybe take a look at some potential future Sox. But as far as actually winning or
losing, the attitude seems to be, "Eh, it's only minor league ball." All the passion is reserved for the big-league club.

There was no "baseball enthusiasm" though.
I tried to start the wave. No luck. I started a bunch of generic baseball shouts. No crowd reaction. A father bringing his son to the game is excellent and I look forward to the day when I can do that. I understand that they're not going to get all rowdy. But most of the crowd was adults sitting with adults and not even paying attention. Whatever, I had a great time, I was just a little surprised with the fans. I've been to Portland games before and plenty of Pawtucket games and they've all seemed much livelier. Though it was drizzing.
