I didn't mean to imply that Mills was a lefty with the Moyer comp. I was simply saying that every lefty prospect who has below average velocity but above average pitchability is thought to be the next Moyer. I should have used Maddux as the comp to not cause any confusion. Both guys are seen as the comp for a pitcher that fits Mills' profile but the problem is that those are two successful major leaguers and for everyone Moyer/Maddux there is in the big leagues, there are dozens littering the minor league landscape that don't make it. He has the make-up and the stuff to be that exception but he's going to need luck along the way.

He definitely needs to get out of the organization because I can't see how he gets a run at the big leagues in Boston. In terms of young pitching over the next few years, we've got Beckett/Daisuke/Clay/Lester/Masterson/Bowden as well as some intriguing bullpen arms. It is going to be tough for Mills to squeeze himself in there because I view him as a groundball innings eater, a poor man's Cook? perhaps?, so ending up on a team like the Pirates or Royals, in need of pitching for him to carve out a career. Best case scenario is the Kason Gabbard route. Be successful in the high minors and wait around for an injury, get a couple of good starts in the big leagues and then be involved in a trade to get him consistent playing time. For Mills' sake, I hope that comes to pass. mahalo
