Bartolo Colon is quickly becoming my favorite Red Sox pitcher to watch.

Lugo is a walking poster child for late term abortions. I know he's in the 95th trimester or whatever but he should be the loophole to the law. mahalo

Ellsbury thrown out stealing in the 1st. It took an absolutely perfect throw to get him. If it was anywhere but 1 inch above the ground right at second base, Jacoby would have been there. I hope they continue to send him. So what if he gets thrown out with the 3-4-5 hitters up. It's much more likely that they would ground into a double play than him get caught stealing. |

Another opposite field homer for Manny. That makes his last 4 homers to the opposite field. Good sign for Manny as he got pull happy for a while there.

I just noticed Manny's career OPS dropped below 1000... You can't let that happen Manny.

Nice inning from Hansen. His slider looked really nasty. Tight hard break to it. One was flat, but the others were nice and tight.

Hansen was nasty today. Can't wait for a Papelbon/Okajima/Hansen/MDC/Masterson/Bard (questionable whether he'll be in the pen, but with his dominance,
I don't see how you keep him out of it in August/September) bullpen later this year.
Why did Mills send Colon back out there for the 7th? He was already at 96 pitches, his previous high was 84 and we had a 6 run lead. Seemed pretty unnecessary to have him throw 25 more pitches than his previous start/season high, Colon isn't that 240 IP horse anymore. Edit: Apparently it was 103 pitches that he threw and not 109 like I thought, so it's 19 more pitches and not 25. Better, but I'd still have taken him out after the 6th.

Only fitting after a big day from Mike Lowell, our very own David Laurila has done a terrific Q&A with him over at BP.

I think Colon has looked pretty damn good. He's done it against 3 weak sisters; KC,Sea and Balt. He will probably draw Sea and Balt in his next 2 starts. I think he'll pitch in Philly. That will be an interesting test. We also have to set our rotation against the MFY's. Because, he is god-awful against them. And, A-Rod literally owns him. What happens when Schilling comes back? Lester to AAA?? Just kidding I think. There's a chance at the trading deadline Pawtucket has Lester,Bucholz,Masterson and Bowden in their rotation. That would be sick. |

I disagree, that wouldn't be that sick, considering Lester, BuchHolz, and Masterson should all be pitching in the majors at that time.

Lester has a 4.44 xFIP, Buck has a 3.61 xFIP... Schilling is going to need to look really good to knock them out of the rotation. Needless to say I dont think that sick Pawtucket rotation is happening.

Fearless prediction: Schilling will either go to the bullpen or not pitch at all this year.
Hmm. So that was post #4,000. Sweet. I guess it's cool that it's in the Manny 500 thread?

Is it just my imagination, or is it a fact that Francona often rests someone other than Varitek when Wakefield is pitching. I swear he consistently gets the
weakest Sox lineup.
