Lowrie is going to have to be picking up a lot of slack at short in 09 and 2010 bc otherwise lugo's clause kicks in for the fifth year, too. I don't see Lowrie getting solid time at third because of Lowell's three-year contract. I think we're all going to be going insane about Lowell and Lugo and Drew's contracts in 2010 if they are all still on the payroll...and I don't see how we could possibly unload any of them. I'm salivating over that homegrown infield we are destined to have though: Youk, D-Ped, Tejada, Lowrie.
Lugo's option vesting works like this: He needs 2400 PAs through 2010 and 600 PAs in 2010. No matter what
happens now and in '09, it will be trivially easy to keep him from getting 600 PAs in 2010. It's not a worry.
