These threads have a bad history around here, but... This was in today's Gammons blog: With the Orioles strong, hustling start, there is an increased belief that Peter Angelos won't allow Brian Roberts to be traded, hence the O's (I think he means Cubs) renewed discussions with the Red Sox concerning Coco Crisp. Boston is still interested in Cubs right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher and a Class A prospect in return for Crisp. The Sox are now 9-1 with Ellsbury leading off. Something has to break soon. I thought the Apockolips was a prehistoric bird that feasted on early mammals and lived in the caves now frequented by Islamic terrorists. - ASF

Most of Coco's value comes from his ability to play centerfield at a GG level, so I doubt the Cubs would trade for him (and subsequently give up talent) and not use him at the position they would get the most value out of.

Or Pie could be moved to LF and split time with Johnson, with Crisp the everyday CF. Coco only has 12 less ABs than Jacoby, and he has played very well. Meanwhile Pie is doing terrible, and they never were comfortable in giving him the job in the first place, evidenced by how long it took for him to get the job. Personally I think they should play Matt Murton, but they obviously don't like him either.

If anything this gives them a greater chance to get a look at Pie. This would be akin to the Sox looking to trade for a veteran 2B after Pedroia started out horribly last April. It didn't make sense then and it wouldn't make sense now. If the Cubs fall back to Earth and or Pie does nothing between now and June then maybe they revisit Coco.

Rookie Posts: 90 04/23/08 8:34 PM	I wish we could get Marmol out of the deal but that won't happen. To be frank you don't see many position players, even bench ones, being moved so early in the season. If Crisp goes it is at least 2 to 3 months away.

I guess I could hate ESPN more but it'd be hard. As for Coco, at this point I don't think we're going to trade him unless something absolutely ridiculous comes along... it's pretty clear to me that they're happy to use him as a 4th outfielder, regardless of his feelings on the matter. Considering the fragility of our starting outfield it's probably not a bad idea to do so.

As much as like to see Ellsbury in the line up every day, the more line drives I see off of Coco's bat the better this team can be come July on. IF he can stay healthy and continue to have an OPS near 800, he will bring something of value sooner or later.
