The possibility of Varitek hitting sixth scares me...

It's gonna be a long year for Varitek. 2009 is gonna be even longer, I imagine. 2010 longer still.

Well considering this is his contract year, I don't give a shit how long a year it's going to be for him after 08.

I kinda wish Tito would just put Jacoby in the spot of the batting order where he had him during...ya know...the World Series. Afterall, it did work out sorta
nicely when he tried it.
Ah, it sure is a relief to have baseball back to complain about everyday.

I think Jacoby spot in the batting order is just for the short term. Until he can gets his timing down. He wasn't swinging a hot bat this spring so they
want to ease him in. Francona is always trying to make the trasition as easy as possible. I think 5-10 games max before he is batting lead off assuming he
starts hitting.

At the same time, if you want a Jacoby/Pedroia combo at the top, where do you put Youk? Are you guys really proposing putting a guy whose best skill is getting
on base in front of Lugo and 'Tek? Sounds silly to me.

I also think the whole "easing Jacoby into the lineup" argument doesn't really work since...well...Tito seemed fine enough to insert him into the leadoff spot in game 5 of the ALCS with the Red Sox facing a 3-1 deficit. I've come to believe that there's usually a little more pressure in playoff games than there are in games played in April, but what the heck do I know?

Arquimedez Bozo wrote: Maybe the strategy is to get Blanton doubled over laughing after the Varitek at bats and then Jacoby can lay down a bunt but Blanton will be too busy laughing to remember to field it. Varitek is an embarassment at the plate right now and belongs batting 8th or 9th until he can catch up to a fastball again. |

Jacoby shouldn't displace Pedroia because of the 20 point or so OBP difference, nevermind Youks and his 30-40 OBP difference. Like I said before, Jacoby
needs to learn how to recognize pitches better to learn how to drive them and he's best off doing that batting 7th or so. He's no worse than any other
option there and its not like he cant steal bases anyway. Like that English wanker said its always best to put higher OBP guys higher in the order, especially
when the difference is at least 20 OBP points.

He still had a pretty solid spring. Yeah, he looked horrible in Japan. Papi and Youk didn't hit much better. Wait a little longer...
