It seems so weird that a) the NBA draft is already upon us and b) we're not talking about what the C's should do in the lottery.
Of course, this year's draft won't be that interesting from the Celtics point of view but I thought, since we have some good NBA fans on here, it
might be interesting to have some discussion.
For the C's, I was so sure that they'd want to go international. Get a guy with upside and store him oversees (develop withough the guaranteed
contract, then hope you hit big). Now, I'm not so sure. As things stand now, the primary needs are a back up PG and C, neither of which would be filled
in the draft as veterans are wanted/needed here. However, if Posey opts out, we'll also need a wing player (especially one that excels on defense). Will
someone like that drop? Is there someone who fits the bill? Normally, I have plenty of time from when the C's end their season until the draft but now .
. .
On the NBA front? What does Chicago do? I gotta believe it's Rose. Even if you discount the "character" stuff with Beasley, I think Chicago
goes PG. The tie-breaker for me is that if you draft Rose you have another great asset to trade (Hinrich). If you draft Beasley, you're really trying to
"market" Drew Gooden. I think Rose + whatever you can get for Hinrich (and other assets) will be greater than Beasley + whatever you can get for
Gooden (and other assets).
There are some interesting trade scenarios out there. Should be a wild one (then again, we often say that only to have minimal action). Maybe I should just
say it will be a draft filled with active discussions.
Hopefully, some of you want to talk draft/offseason even though the Cs don't need the roster turnover they have in the past.
