That is actually all he said. As much as like to see Ellsbury in the line up every day, the more line drives I see off of Coco's bat the better this team can be come July on. IF he can stay healthy and continue to have an OPS near 800, he will bring something of value sooner or later.

Reed Johnson is a better RHH and can play RF which only JD Drew really has the arm to do in Boston.

I wish we could get Marmol out of the deal but that won't happen. To be frank you don't see many position players, even bench ones, being moved so early in the season. If Crisp goes it is at least 2 to 3 months away.

The Cubs are also playing .700 ball right now so I can't see where they would be looking to make a switch.
If anything this gives them a greater chance to get a look at Pie.

This would be akin to the Sox looking to trade for a veteran 2B after Pedroia started out horribly last April.
It didn't make sense then and it wouldn't make sense now.

If the Cubs fall back to Earth and or Pie does nothing between now and June then maybe they revisit Coco.

They could use him as a part-time CF to take pressure off Pie, with Crisp going to LF only when Pie is in the lineup.

Or Pie could be moved to LF and split time with Johnson, with Crisp the everyday CF.

Most of Coco's value comes from his ability to play centerfield at a GG level, so I doubt the Cubs would trade for him (and subsequently give up talent) and not use him at the position they would get the most value out of.

Coco anywhere but in CF is an immense waste of talent, so you're probably right. The Cubs are fantastic at wasting talent.
