We already have a thread for in season trade news items. There is discussion going on about possible Sox moves in threads all over the place as we approach the end of July. I thought maybe it's time for a consolidated thread concerning player movement as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, what the Sox should be trying to accomplish, and if/when something happens, assessing the worth and ramifications of such moves.

Apparently, one of the best pitchers of this generation, Roy Halladay, is being dangled as trade bait. In my view, Halladay is a three B+ or better prospect deal.

I would think the top two teams in the bidding (with potential packages) will be:

Hankees (Hughes, Romine/Montero, Melancon)

Phillies (Taylor/Brown, Drabek/Knapp, Marson)

While I love him, I don't see the Red Sox getting involved. If they did, it would likely take Bowden, Masterson and...

Here are the results from the 2009 Pre-Season SoxProspects.com Community Rankings voting, which took place March 11-22, 2008. Overall, 36 members voted by submitting their respective top 40 lists. The prospects are arriving at The Fort. Today these prospects looked good hitting: Ryan Kalish, Zach Daeges, Michael Almanzar, Chris Carter, Ty Weeden, Anthony Rizzo, Oscar Tejeda, (with red hair!). Nick Hagadone is throwing at 80-85%,and feeling great. LHP Will Latimer, has put on a lot of muscle, looks good, and is hitting his spots. RHP Ryan Colvin, has arrived from Texas, and is in rehab.
